Cierge de Lune
By Fabrice Pellegrin for Aedes de Venustas
A wonderful spicy warm vanilla floral oriental
It is a blessing and a curse with niche perfumes. The curse is it takes a long time to find the perfect one for you but a blessing that you are wearing something that is almost unique to you or at least to dedicated followers.
To describe a perfume does not do it justice to the moment you spray it on and say “that's for me”!
Cool and limpid as moonlit desert air, velvety and sensuous as the midnight sky, Cierge de Lune is inspired by the fragrance of the mysterious night-blooming cereus, also known as the Queen of the Night, a spectacular flower that only opens after dark and wilts as the sun rises.
Its French name cierge de lune translates to “moon altar candle,” the nocturnal inspiration for this intoxicating fragrance.
It is said that Queen Marie-Antoinette summoned the botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté at midnight to capture its poignantly fleeting beauty.
At its heart is Madagascan vanilla absolute (woodier and more ambery than its Tahitian counterpart with a tinge of tawny leather), alongside pink pepper, black pepper and ylang ylang.
Then, in a final metamorphosis, base notes of suede accord, incense and ambrox turn the nocturnal bloom into a dusky second skin!
What people have said
“Almost unexpectedly and quickly found I was in a fascinating warmth with its beautiful vanilla - while pepper lends a Luna passion with incense bringing its finish full of depth.”
“I immediately fell in love with this fragrance. Even now after 7 hours it still offers me a sensual aura. The Sillage doesn't scream "Here I am" which wouldn't suit this beautiful perfume but rather a delicious after glow.”
“A seductive aurora spreads and develops into unique fragrance which is wonderful.”
“One year ago I would never have dreamed that I would ever like a fragrance with leather. But Cierge de Lune is a well deserved 10 out of 10 and is my favourite perfume. I am desperate to be find another bottle!”
